Join IN-PERSON on Thursday April 4th on the back patio of Brasil Houston for an evening of short films. *Share this link with your Houston area short film lovin’ friends. The Program: Three short docs by award-winning filmmaker and longtime head of UT Film Program, Paul Stekler!

Paul Stekler’s films have won numerous awards including the Sundance winning George Wallace: Settin’ the Woods on Fire, the Emmy winning Vote for Me: Politics in America, two of the Eyes on the Prize civil rights history series films, and three films aired on PBS’s independent documentary series POV, Last Man Standing: Politics Texas Style, Louisiana Boys: Raised on Politics, and Getting Back to Abnormal, about race, culture and politics in post-Katrina New Orleans. He was also the longtime head of the University of Texas’ film production program.

He’ll be showing three short films. Spit Farther! about the world championship watermelon seed spitting competition in Luling, Texas; Molly & Ann about Texas icons Ann Richards and Molly Ivins, made with footage he shot with them before they passed away; and For the Record, about a struggling Texas Panhandle newspaper, that he produced for filmmaker Heather Courtney, that will air nationally on May 6th on PBS’s Reel South series.

The “first Thursdays” short film evening is always a great networking opportunity or simply a chance to get together with or meet new Houston filmmakers and creative people.
